Jan 27, 2021 · If you need to repair a shorted keypad on your GE microwave, you will need to follow these steps: Unplug the microwave. Unscrew the screws that are holding the top vent grill on top of the microwave. Unscrew the screws holding the control panel cover to the right. Unplug the ribbon cable (this is what controls the keypad). Use a razor blade to gently work your way around the plastic trim bezel and remove the bezel. The keypad actually consists of three plastic sheets sandwiched together. You only need to remove the top 2 layers. Layer 1 is the printed keypad and layer 2 is the contact pad.You have to be careful in all this or you may crease or damage a panel.
